Josh Allen Throws 3 TDs, Bills Thrash Rams 31-10

In the 2022 NFL season opener, Buffalo Bills defeated Los Angeles Rams 31-10 with Josh Allen playing as starting QB and tallying the first touchdown pass of the 2022 NFL season.

Allen threw his pass to wide receiver Gabe Davis for securing the 26-yard touchdown pass. On the last time the Bills played on the field, Allen-Davis' connection set the bar for an NFL record of the most receiving touchdown with four touchdowns. In the preseason, Davis continued to tally his touchdown reception with Allen playing as the quarterback threw the pass.

Then, against the reigning champion, the Rams, Allen found the way to tally the first TD for the Bills followed by a two-point field goal from Tyler Bass, to make the Rams went scoreless in the first quarter.

The touchdown occurred in a third-down situation for the Bills and Zack Moss handed over the ball and Allen move backward and dummied the Rams’ pass rusher. Then, Allen threw his pass to Davis, who was able to evade the Rams’ defender, and caught the ball targeted to him to secure the first touchdown.

"We knew how big of a deal it was for us," Davis said, as per ESPN. "We knew the stage that we were on. We knew that everybody would be watching and just know to play our game."

According to ESPN, the play came from Bills’ offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, who made the play-calling on Davis’ touchdown. In that game, Dorsey implemented a good balance of rush and pass strategy considering the Rams having Aaron Donald in their defensive lineups. With the tactics that made Allen move his hands quickly and passed the ball, the Bills played a `dominant down conversion and passing distance.

The Rams managed to tie the game 10-10 at the end of the first half after failing to score in the first quarter. It was Bass, who kick a three-point field goal to make the scoreboard 10-0 for the Bills, but a 4-yard touchdown play from Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Cooper Kupp led Los Angeles to chase the score to 10-7. Then, the 57-yard field goal scored by Matt Gay add three points to tie the score.

Started the dominant second half, the Bills going for 63 yards on eight plays and finishing with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Allen. Then, the ball flew up targeting wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie followed by Bass’ extra point made the Bills up 17-10.

In that play, McKenzie moved quickly when Allen found him to throw the pass straight to the end zone. The 1.63 seconds touchdown pass was Allen’s second-quickest release on a touchdown in the last two seasons.

The Bills continued to extend their lead to 24-10 with Allen’s rushing touchdown. Allen, who did not manage to tally pass completions, then made his way himself an 8-yard run that ended with a strong stiff arm on Rams safety Nick Scott.

Then, wide receiver Stefon Diggs secured the 31-10 win for the Bills when he extended the lead with a highlight-reel-worthy catch. The last touchdown happened when the Bills went for third down and four yards at 47 and Allen tallied a pass to add 53 receiving yards by Diggs.

In this game, Allen recorded 26 out of 31 passing completions for 297 passing yards and three passing touchdowns. He also completed his first five passes for 58 yards, including the first touchdown to level his previous performance in 2020 in NFL Week 16 against New England Patriots. In that matchup, he threw his five passes to four different receivers.
